Pedestrian struck and killed by cars in Little Rock crash

On Behalf of | Feb 9, 2018 | Car Accidents |

As everyone knows, traffic in downtown Little Rock gets hectic, especially during business hours on weekdays. Drivers are often far too eager to race through intersections, even when traffic lights are yellow or have just turned red. Sometimes people get away with such reckless behavior and other times their recklessness generates tragedy.

That might well be the case in a recent crash at the intersection of West 6th Street and Broadway. A pedestrian was struck and killed when two vehicles slammed into each other and then went onto the sidewalk where she stood.

The violent collision occurred outside of rush hour, Little Rock law enforcement officials said. The crash that killed the Alexander woman took place at 10:50 in the morning.

The victim was rushed to University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Hospital (UAMS) where she was pronounced dead just two hours later, according to an article in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

The two vehicles in the wreck — a Nissan Sentra and a Chevrolet Cruze — were driven by a 25-year-old Little Rock resident and a 23-year-old North Little Rock man. The impact of the violent collision knocked the woman about 80 feet, officials said. She landed on the south side sidewalk of West 6th Street.

The two drivers fared much better: neither one reported any injuries.

In many similar situations, investigators will find that alcohol, drugs, speeding or distraction played a prominent role in the tragedy.
